The following email, I received today from Des, warning me not to leave yet.
Dear Ingo
Thanks for your latest confirming your safe arrival in Rbay.
A special thank you for the kind words – really appreciated.
It is always a tremendous relief when a yachty gets in safely and I see it as a personal victory and is the reason I do this.
This area is so treacherous and dangerous so every time a yachty gets in I celebrate.
Having done 40 000nm up and down this Moz channel to Madagascar Tanzania etc over 13 years of cruising I have learnt my lessons the hard way and it is a pleasure to share my knowledge with the cruising community.
Thank you for your offer of hospitality.
I would strongly recommend you resist the temptation to leave immediately for Durban\East London as the coast line is extremely hostile and would suggest you read my standard cruising notes for the trip down to Cape Town first.
Out at sea you have space to maneuver if the weather gets bad but on this coast there is no place to hide.
I will send my notes on a separate email.
You should have pretty good cell phone coverage going down the coast providing you stay within 10-15nm off the coast so communication should not be a problem…
Regards and stay safe always
Des
